Deputy Flor Estela Renteria Medina asked the National
Council to Prevent Discrimination, to activate the protocols in order to pay
attention and to protect the LGBT+ community in Torreon,
Coahuila, because of some alleged discriminatory actions the mayor Jorge
Zermeño practiced.
“It is important that the city council of Torreon knows that everyone in
Mexico is equal before the law. The Constitution guarantees that no person, by
his skin color, social position, religion, race, gender or sexual orientation
must be discriminated”, she exposed.
In a press conference, Renteria Medina, informed that with this goal, if
an LGBT+ member gets his right violated, Conapred will protect them of any
violation they receive.
The deputy of Coahuila informed that since two months ago, the new city
council has been doing a persecution and an authoritarian and violent attitude
to these people’s rights.
Medina said that the world has been evolving and has become more plural,
so that respect towards human rights must be the thing to rule the actions in
all situations and circumstances.
